ICT FIELD ENGINEER

PATTERSON JOB GRADE – C3

Purpose of the position:

To identify and implement technical ICT solutions to all user requirements and to provide support on a wide variety of software, hardware, and network user requests. To take responsibility for the technical management of all ICT structures within the company to optimize functioning and keep up with new developments.

Key performance areas:

1. Local Area Network (LAN) set-up

  • Sets up local area networks.
  • Loads the necessary software.
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure
  • Manages local area devices such as (switches & Access point.)

2. Workstation connectivity and support

  • Liaises with suppliers to rectify anomalies or deficiencies.
  • Configuration for e-mail and the internet on the PC.
  • Responds to user requests regarding software and operating problems.
  • Attends to and manages helpdesk requests

3. Network problem-solving services

  • Obtains delegated problems and identifies causes and effects.
  • Determines remedies in the system.
  • Monitors LAN and wide area network.
  • Supports network security.

4. Back-up Maintenance services

  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on the network with an emphasis on cabling and Local Area Network connections.
  • Checks all critical points on a regular basis and obtains indications of wear, faultiness, etc.

5. Personal Computer (PC) and printer installations

  • Liaises with users who obtain new computers and/or printers.
  • Sets up the computer and printer as needed.
  • Installs all hardware components on the computer and connects printer.
  • Assists with procuring ICT hardware and Equipment

6. Hardware Maintenance Services

  • Provides preventive maintenance on workstations
  • Checks records regularly and plans maintenance chores.
  • Performs all basic hardware repairs

7. Troubleshooting services

  • Checks workstations for inefficiencies (printers, computers).
  • Research failures as to causes and make recommendations.

8. ERP Support

  • User support on ERP.
  • Liaising with service providers.

9. Server Support

  • Routine maintenance
  • Server upgrades and server patching.

Qualification Requirements:

A Diploma in Information Communication Technology or similar. NQF Level 6.

Experience and special knowledge requirements

A minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience in Information Technology/networks/workstation support.

Skills and Knowledge

  • MS Windows and MS Office.
  • Workstation hardware configurations
  • Specialised hardware and software
  • Basic PC repairs
  • Customer/user service skills
